The Life of an Active 59-Year-Old

The older I get, the more I realize how important the following quote is. “It’s not the years in your life, it’s the life in your years.” I’m 59 years old in exactly one way: my birth certificate. Many people my age are slowing down a bit, taking things easier than they did in their younger years. That’s not me, though. I approach every day as if it were a quest to squeeze as much juice out of 24 hours as possible. That’s how I’ve always strived to live.

No Time to Waste

I look at time as the most valuable asset we have; it’s the only thing we can’t get back. I wake up every morning with a plan to dominate the day. I’m extremely grateful that I was born with this kind of drive, while others have to capture or learn it. Either way, maximizing your time is an invaluable tool that leads to accomplishing more in every facet of your life, and it’s something that I try to convey when people ask me how I do it all. I’d love to do the same for you!

Find Your Partners-In-Crime

I’ve been very lucky in friendship. My bestie and I are almost always on the same page, especially when it comes to travel (one of my favorite things to do). We try to take a yearly trip together, something we’ve been doing for years. Don’t take that the wrong way; we’re still working on a budget! But we both love to experience new places, so we make a point of doing our research so that we can experience unique destinations within our budgetary constraints.

Many people aim to relax on vacation, for the reason they probably went on a trip at all is to unwind. More power to them, but me and my best friend do things a little differently. We like to hit the ground running, eager to explore what this fresh destination has to offer us!

Relationships

There’s a downside to being such an active 59-year-old woman; it’s not always easy to find a significant other who can live like that. The simple fact is that most people my age don’t live as fast as I do, one of the many reasons I am infinitely thankful to have my best friend in my life! While I understand why people my age are more comfortable taking it slow, I also realize that living this lifestyle makes me happy, very happy. You can’t depend on someone else to produce those feelings for you. Do what makes your soul shine. Do YOU!

Seize the day! Living like I do is all a mindset. If you approached every day, every hour, every minute, every second like it was your last, how much would you accomplish? A lot I bet. Everyone can get a little more out of their time if they really concentrated on it, like I’ve tried to do. All you have to do is make that change. All you have to do is want to make that change. Then the world is yours to conquer!
